Cornish Cross Chickens

After reading Joel Salatin's book "Pastured Poultry Profits", Ben and I decided we would try to raise some meat birds for our large family.  The book made so much sense......no hormones, no medicated feed, no antibiotics, just fresh ground every day for the chickens.  We knew that we wanted to put them in our vineyard and orchard, but the pen size suggested would not fit between the rows.  So Ben scaled down the pens and built them for our needs.  Instead of putting 75 chicks in one pen, we put them in two pens.  We learned so much from the first 75. We went by the book, not realizing that each piece of land and climate is different for raising any animal. We had some drown and we lost some to the heat.  After much trial and error, the final result was fantastic and it was so worth it, and wow, you should see the ground where they have been. It is lush! We plan on selling them by the pound and they will be weighing 4 to 5 lbs.  People do not realize that these chickens are so meaty that sometimes (depending on the size of the family) that more than one meal can be eaten from just one chicken.  Please use our contact page if you would like to get in touch with us to order some.  They will be $3.35 a pound.
